Script Reading Service

Live Theatre offers a free feedback service on scripts over 45 minutes in length for UK writers. Scripts are read by one of our experienced readers who will provide a detailed report on your play. If you have a short play that you’d like us to consider, please take a look at Short Cuts for information on how to submit.

To submit your script to Live Theatre’s New Writing department please email your script as a word document or pdf to degna@live.org.uk. Please remember to include a covering letter in your email.

Script Reading Service Checklist

  • Scripts should be double spaced
  • Please include a title page and a list of characters
  • Your name, address, email address and other contact details should be clearly legible on the front page
  • All pages should be numbered

Please note that we will not report on adaptations; excerpts/incomplete scripts; pantomimes; radio, TV or film scripts or musicals.

Scripts are accepted all year round and read and reported on by our Literary Officer Rosie Kellagher. Scripts that receive a favourable report will be passed on to the Literary Manager Gez Casey for a further read.

If you have a completed, full length play that you would like to send to Live for consideration please email your script as a word document or pdf to degna@live.org.uk.

We accept scripts from all UK writers but priority will be given to those from and/or living in the North East region of England. Overseas writers who wish to submit a script for consideration are advised to email a synopsis along with a biog to degna@live.org.uk before submitting their play.

We do not accept submissions of the following: adaptations; excerpts/incomplete scripts; pantomimes; radio, TV or film scripts or musicals.

You only get one chance to make a good first impression so if this is your first draft don’t send it to us yet - ask friends and family for constructive (and honest) criticism and then rewrite. When you’re happy with it send it in to us.
